| 内容記述 | 紛争、和平プロセス、和平合意と社会の変化に伴って北アイルランド小説のテーマも変遷を遂げてきた。１９７０年代から１９９０年代にかけては「紛争小説」が書かれ、１９９８年のベルファスト和平合意前後からは、紛争を振り返りながら和平の過程の中で生きる人間の姿を描いた小説が書かれ始めた。そして２０００年を過ぎてからは、紛争は背景に置いただけの、日常的な人生体験をテーマにした小説が書かれ始めた。シャロン・オウエンス『マルベリー通りの喫茶店』（２００３）は、ベルファストのある喫茶店の常連客たちの様々な人生体験を描いた。苦難を乗り越えて新たな人生を踏み出す彼らは、北アイルランド内外の多くの読者たちの共感を呼び、「北アイルランドは紛争が終わったら書くべき題材は無くなる」というメディアや批評家たちの見解を一蹴した。また彼らの新たな人生は、平和と発展に向けて歩み始めた北アイルランドのメタファーと見なすこともできる。そして登場人物の女性たちは、紛争小説に見られた受動的な女性たちとは違った能動的な女性たちである。The themes of Northern Irish fiction have changed as Northern Irish society has witnessed events such as the Troubles and the peace process. The so-called “Troubles novels” were written from the １９７０s until the １９９０s. Since a few years past ２０００, novels of which the main themes are people’s simple experiences of living have been coming out. The Tea House on Mulberry Street （２００３）by Sharon Owens is a novel about various experiences of living of the customers in a Belfast tea house. The new lives which they have attained after overcoming many hardships can be regarded as a metaphor for Belfast which is now on her way to peace and development after overcoming the Troubles. Another characteristic of the novel is the appearance of active women, which presents a striking contrast to passive women appearing in many Troubles novels. | |||||||
